Reading Stimulates... Thought, I Think (And No, Twilight Doesn't Count)

Dear Dysfunctional,
For those of you who live under a rock (and yes, you would literally have to be living under a rock not to notice) in southern Michigan, the sun is shining in the sky; there ain't a cloud in sight. At long last, we have been freed from the confines of a cold relentless winter, which has overshadowed us with constant cloud cover and monotonous mono-colour. Well, hopefully the weather persists, especially with Easter right around the corner... To continue, however. As of late, I have actually taken it upon myself to begin reading once again, at least reading of titles not required for my school. Really, it seems ridiculous that people, even with the incredible amount of easily accessible literature abounding around them, rarely take the time to do so, instead limiting their literacy to Facebook posts. The primary issue with this is that it portrays an increasing problem; people are gradually divorcing their decisions from any logical reasoning behind it. Instead of reading articles or book that would offer logical arguments to support their opinions, the feel inclined to believe something or side with something merely because a large amount of people endorse the cause with a vehement "yeah! this is awesome! screw all the haters!"Considering that this is the majority of what you will find in a comment thread, it becomes fairly evident fairly fast that people don't decide based on reason anymore, but only on the way an issue is emotionally presented to them. One only has to look at popular advertising to see this is true: the fact that the products with the funniest or most creative ad are the best selling speaks volumes as to the thought process of the average consumer. So seriously people, start reading a bit more, make an effort to better your minds. But don't just stop there, you should exercise your abilities; get in thoughtful debates, even, in fact especially, with just random people. It really makes a difference for a lot of individuals when they meet somebody who is smart and open to actual ideas. Make an effort to interact a bit more, for everybody's sake.
Thanks,
Rick Kindlell
